Call for Full Papers

We invite researchers, practitioners, and academics to submit original full research papers (‘Long Papers’). This track provides an opportunity for authors to present comprehensive studies, groundbreaking research, and significant developments in the field of HCI.

The conference theme this year is Digital Bridges – exploring digital connections and the social impact of new technlogies.

We welcome submissions on a wide range of topics, with clear HCI contributions, including:

  • Empirical contributions tell us about how people (or other entities) use, or live with technology;
  • Design, artefact and systems contributions that present new forms of design and interaction, or build upon/reframe/critique forms of design and interaction that are already known in HCI;
  • Methodological contributions that propose novel approaches to researching in HCI;
  • Theory contributions that speak to concepts, models and principles relevant to HCI research and practice;
  • Critical literature review contributions that synthesise work that has been done to date on a particular topic while offering new insights on trends or gaps;
  • Dataset contributions that provide the HCI community with new and useful corpora;
  • Opinion contributions that utilise supporting evidence to make new arguments to open up reflection, discussion and debate.

Full Papers should:

  • Have clear significance in terms of the research contribution to HCI
  • Offer a high level of rigour and technical quality in terms of related work, data, methods and analysis;
  • Demonstrate clarity of writing at a level ready for publication in the ACM digital library.

Selection Process

All full papers will undergo a double-blind peer review process and will receive at least three reviews from the Programme Committee. Based on the full text of the submission, the panel will evaluate them for significance, rigour, and clarity of writing. See the bottom of this page for a list of Programme Committee members.

Rejected papers may be given the option to submit as a short paper instead.

Desk Reject: Any papers that are clearly out of scope, out of template, or are clearly not research papers will be desk rejected.

Assisted Desk Reject: In order to reduce reviewer workload, the selection process will use a standard Assisted Desk Reject process, where papers that are deemed as not ready for review will be rejected without review. Papers will be considered for an Assisted Desk Reject if they meet one or more of the below criteria:

  • Inadequate Context: literature review insufficient to contextualize the contribution to HCI
  • Inadequate Contribution: a disproportionately small HCI contribution given the paper length
  • Inadequate Data: data insufficient to support claims
  • Inadequate Description of Method: insufficient methodological detail, conceptual clarity, or research transparency
  • Anonymisation Issues: failure to appropriately anonymise the submission

Submission Guidelines

Multiple paper submissions and submitting across multiple tracks: If you are planning to be an author on multiple submissions, please carefully read information below regarding publication fees before submitting your work.

Paper Length: Full papers should be between 6 and 10 pages, excluding references. Appendices are optional, but should not exceed 5 pages in length.

Anonymity: Authors should ensure that their submissions are fully anonymized. This includes referring to your own past work in the 3rd person and fully referencing your past work (rather than listing some references as “Anonymous”)

Originality: Submissions must present original work not previously published or under review elsewhere.

Use of AI: Authors should declare how AI has been used in the research (ie in the idea generation, literature review, data collection, and writing) in the method section of the paper. The authors may use the Appendix if this additional space is needed to achieve this.

Formatting: Authors should submit their paper in PDF format. Please adhere to the Electronic Workshops in Computing paper format.

After Acceptance

Presentation

Accepted papers will be presented during the conference in oral sessions. At least one author must register and attend the conference to present the work.

Publication

Conference papers will be published online with open access, indexed in SCOPUS and Web of Science – Conference Proceedings Citation Index (CPCI) and referenced in CrossRef with a DOI identifier. Papers will be indexed in theACM Digital Library, and extended versions of the best submissions will be invited for publication in a journal special issue - Interacting with Computers.

Publication fees: the substantial costs associated with the processing and digital archival of manuscripts, the following registration policy applies:

  • One Registration per Paper: At least one author must register at the conference for each accepted paper.
  • Multiple Papers by a Single Author: If an author has multiple accepted papers and is the only author with a conference registration, a Mandatory Publication Fee of £100 will be charged for each additional paper beyond the first.
