SUMMARY:Older Adults Navigating Trust\, Safety\, and Privacy in Online Dati
 ng
DESCRIPTION:BritCHI 2026 · Paper Session 3: Digital Social Life\nMarmorato
\, Stobert\nOlder adults are increasingly using online dating\, but this c
omes with safety and privacy risks. To understand how they manage these ch
allenges\, we interviewed 31 adults aged 60-85. Our thematic analysis iden
tified four main themes representing stages of online dating: deciding to
 date online\, creating a profile\, evaluating profiles\, and deepening a c
onnection. Participants were aware of risks\, adapted their approaches\, a
nd viewed trust as fragile and something to be earned over time. They also
faced frustrations with platform issues such as the prevalence of fraudul
ent or inactive accounts and the difficulty of deleting profiles. We compa
re their experiences to the literature on younger adults and highlight way
s to better support older online daters.
